Bengaluru Flooding - Karnataka Minister To Meet IT Firms Today: 10 Points

Bengaluru: Water has started receding from several areas of Bengaluru, but residents and IT hubs continue to worry over the weather department's warnings of more rain.

    1. As a result of two days of heavy rain, water levels have dropped in several areas following scenes of flooded neighborhoods and boats rescuing residents.
    2. Thousands of kilometers of traffic congestion were caused by waterlogged roads.
    3. This afternoon, Karnataka Minister CN Ashwathnarayan will meet with representatives of several IT companies to discuss problems caused by unprecedented rains.
    4. There will be attendance at the meeting from Chief Secretary Vandita Sharma, Chief Commissioner of the Bengaluru civic body Tushar Giri Nath, officials from the city's water authority, and the police commissioner, CH Pratap Reddy.
    5. ANI reported that Infosys, Wipro, Nasscom, Goldman Sachs, Intel, Tata Consultancy Services, and Philips will be among those attending the meeting.
    6. There were several areas of the city that suffered from power cuts and water shortages due to waterlogging. Borewells are being used to fill the supply gap in affected areas. In other localities, tankers deployed by the state government are at work.
    7. A 23-year-old woman died of electrocution during the waterlogging in the city. Akhila, who worked in a school's administration department, was returning home when her scooter skidded. She tried to grab an electric pole to avoid a fall and received an electric shock.
    8. The waterlogging in the city, for the second time in a week, has put the spotlight back on unplanned urbanization and encroachment that have choked drainage points.
    9. As a result, the government has swung into action. As per Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai, 1,500 crores have been allocated to drain water from the city and another 300 crores to remove encroachments.
    10. According to the Chief Minister, this situation was caused by the previous JDS-Congress government in the state. As a result of the unplanned administration under the previous Congress, permission was granted right, left, and center in the buffer zone and lakes.
