Mumbai security lapse results in arrest of impostor during visit by Amit Shah

 

Despite ending his two-day visit to Mumbai on Wednesday, Amit Shah was involved in the incident today.

Mumbai: During a security scare in Mumbai, a man pretending to be a home ministry official approached Union Home Minister Amit Shah and roamed freely in restricted areas until he was caught.

On Tuesday, Amit Shah ended a two-day visit, but today reports of the incident emerged.

Hemant Pawar, the arrested man, is believed to be an MP from Andhra Pradesh's personal secretary.

Amit Shah allegedly hovered around him for hours wearing an I-card from the home ministry.

He was posing as a security officer, according to the police report.

Amit Shah attended two of his events and he was also spotted outside Eknath Shinde's and Devendra Fadnavis' homes.

A home ministry official who grew suspicious informed the Mumbai Police, who then questioned Pawar.



The police also learned that his name was not on the list of the Home Minister's security team.

Pawar was arrested. He has been sent to police custody for five days.

Mr. Shah visited Mumbai for the first time after Eknath Shinde became Maharashtra Chief Minister on July 30 following a split in the Shiv Sena.
